Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT)
A 3.9-metre (150-inch) reflecting telescope, owned and funded jointly by the governments of Australia and the UK. It is situated at the Siding Spring Observatory site in New South Wales, Australia. The telescope was constructed in the early 1970s on an equatorial horseshoe mounting, and started scheduled observing in 1975. It was the first telescope to be fully computer controlled.
Many different instruments and techniques are used in conjunction with this versatile, general-purpose telescope, which has yielded numerous important scientific discoveries and spectacular photographs of the southern skies.
